Morneau to Miss Rest of MLB Season

The Minnesota Twins' fading playoff hopes took one more hit Tuesday when it was announced that All-Star 1B Justin Morneau will miss the remainder of the season.

Morneau has been fighting back pain for weeks, but a CT scan along with an MRI on Monday acknowledged that he has a crack in his lower back.

The condition shouldn't figure to need surgery. Physicians have told Morneau to rest the back for the coming three month|fall season.

Morneau injured himself on a headfirst slide into 1st base on Friday and has not played since.

Before this past week's incident, the slugging first baseman had previously been playing with tenderness off and on for a fair amount of time. Accordingly, his numbers have suffered mightily; Morneau was batting just .077 in the month of September to drop his season average to .274. Prior to this slide, he was hitting above the .300 mark. Having had only 9 hits over a span of 22 games, it was apparent that something was amiss.

"You can play with the discomfort if you feel like you're helping the franchise or doing things to help your colleagues out and win games," Morneau said. "When you play and you do not feel like you're helping anybody, that is when you kind of take a step back and say, 'All right, perhaps I'm doing more harm than good.' "

Despite his struggles recently, Morneau finishes the 2009 season with 30 HRs and one hundred RBIs. The home run total is higher than his 2008 total of 23.

Michael Cuddyer should become the primary first baseman in Morneau's absence.

Even with the condition, Morneau remains optimistic about the Twins' chances the rest of the way.

"Hopefully I'll see the guys go on a run here and act as cheerleader and that is about it," Morneau claimed.

There's nothing more frustrating for golf enthusiasts than playing what they think is the same as they've played before, only for the ball to end up nowhere near their intended target. Certainly, I know that's the case for me, anyway.

This is where some proper advice from a real professional can help. Over the past 3 years I've taken many lessons from my golf coach, and I'm putting down some of the best bits of the advice I've been given in a series of coaching articles. I'll start off with the most important of the lot - keep the ball moving forwards.

My golf coach impressed on me from the start of my lessons that almost nobody ever achieves the perfect swing, perfect grip, perfect stance etc. He assured me that most amateur golfers will waste 90% of their time trying to perfect what they see as a problem. And indeed most golfers have plenty of issues to be concerned about, such as keeping their arm straight or their head still.

More important than any of this, though, is hitting the ball so it heads in the right direction. That is, keep the ball moving towards the green. To demonstrate the importance of this 1 factor above all others, my coach showed me exactly what he meant.

Taking an outrageously off-centre backswing, and letting go of the club with one hand, he proceeded to bring the club down in such a manner as to send the ball flying straight from the tee. There wasn't a huge amount of power in the shot, but it was certainly in the right direction.

I realised from this that the key element of the whole shot was the club face hitting the ball. So long as you have this under control, you can send the ball towards the hole. Which is where I started to focus my efforts in practice.

Obviously, the more control you have over the backswing and other elements, the more power you'll be able to get into the shot and thus hit the ball further. And your club selection is going to be important here, too, for getting more distance on the ball.

Fundamentally, though, the aim of the game is to get a little white ball from a little wooden / plastic tee, all the way to a little hole which may be several hundred yards away from where you start. If you can keep that ball heading in the right direction, like me, you'll find your game improving and can start working on the other aspects over time.

Bear Bryant and His Contributions to Alabama and The World

The tradition is steeped in winning football at the University of Alabama, and has produced the top football players to ever come out of college football, but the most well know person ever to step foot on the gridiron at Alabama is most definitely "Bear" Bryant.

The first person that you most likely think of when you hear something about Alabama football, it is likely you think of Bear Bryant. At one point, Bear Bryant was the winningest coach in college football ever. This legendary coach served the Crimson for 25 years. In this period of time, Brian was phenomenal with six national championships and 13 SEC conference championships.

As as college head coach, Bryant had several college head coaching jobs such as Maryland, Kentucky, and Texas A& M before he at long last had the break to return to his alma mater, the University of Alabama. So stirred was Paul Bryant, that he distinctively was quoted as saying, "Mama called. And when Mama calls, you just have to come runnin'."

It was the year 1958 that Bear took over the helm of the Crimson Tide, and started leading it to its former Rose Bowl-style brilliance but achieved even to greater heights. Producing legendary players like Pat Trammell, Big John Hannah, Snake Stabler, Joe Namath, Lee Roy Jordan, Billy Neighbors, Bob Baumhower, Johnny Musso,, and many others.

No doubt, Bear Bryant was a prodigious motivator and understood how to get his players to do what he needed them to do. Florida A&M coach, Jake Gaither said of Bear Bryant, "He can take his'n and beat you'n, and he can take your'n and beat his'n." The motivation wasn't just on the playing field, the motivation carried into the world also by the nature he instilled in his players like big John Croyle, who started the faith-based Christian Big Oak Ranch for troubled boys and girls in Springville, Alabama.

The last year that he coached the Crimson Tide, 1982, was a down year for Alabama and Bear couldn't see himself coaching Alabama into mediocrity. He constantly said that if he quit coaching that he "wouldn't last a week." In reality, he didn't last a lot longer than that, only 37 days. On January 26, 1983, Bryant died of a heart attack at age 69 and many mourned his death. Public officials projected that between a half-million to a million people were lined all along the 53 mile stretch from Tuscaloosa to the cemetery in Birmingham that was only blocks away from Legion Field.

Bear's Legacy

Bear's heritage lives in the players that are now growing older and the fans that recollect his championship spirit. Not only that... He helped break segregation in the South's football universe, and in doing so, turned the state around from bigotry to glory. Not only that, he changed the world to a better place. Roll Tide!

The history of airsoft guns is a unique one, dating back to the 70's in Japan where owning firearms was illegal. People still had an interest in weaponry so they found a loop hole around this law and began to manufacture fakes that looked like the real thing but fired plastic and rubber balls. 3. Try not to be critical of your technical skill. Focus more on your overall performance. How does it sound as a whole? If you are a pianist and you worry during your piece about your fingering then you are disregarding the song and how it jingles. Distress yourself about technicalities when you practice.
