Odom Signing Locks Things up in LA

By Matt Dambra

There you have it, the battle for Lamar Odom has ended.

Lakers fans celebrate the extension of their valuable forward, while the Heat wonder what could have been had they succeeded in signing Odom. Additionally, the fact that they didn't sign Odom is a legitimate blow to the team's chances of extending Wade after his contract expires this season.

Does this success on the Lakers' part lock up another NBA ring for the team in 09-10? I do think they'll win - however, I think they would win again with or without Lamar on their squad.

With ESPN now reporting that Odom will re-sign a four-year, $33 million deal with Los Angeles, there is no possible way any professional NBA analyst can rank the Lakers anywhere else besides on top of the totem pole.

When you combine the prowess of Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Ron Artest, and Lamar Odom, it's really difficult to deny the power of this NBA team. No other roster competes with the likes of such an amazing depth of talent.

Put that all together and this organization is stronger than Arnold Schwarzenegger in his body building prime. Is it even a question that the Los Angeles Lakers will repeat during the upcoming season?

Combine all four of these players with the zen-like mastery of Phil Jackson, and no one holds a candle to the Lakers, especially in the West. Teams like Dallas and San Antonio have made some nice moves this summer, but the Lakers moved forward two steps while they all moved forward one.

This is a team that could easily win seventy or more games in 2009-2010. What would stop it short of an injury to one of their stars? This is a team destined for greatness and the rest of the NBA knows it.
